Rainbow Gardens is a Waldorf early childhood program in Northfield, Vermont, serving children ages two through six. Subbing at Rainbow Gardens is delightful because the days are wholesome, playful, and full of joy.
About the role
Substitute teachers support our classrooms when regular staff are away. You will step into an existing rhythm, helping children feel safe, seen, and cared for throughout their day.
Key responsibilities
Supervise safe and nurturing indoor and outdoor play
Help children with bathroom breaks and handwashing
Support nap and rest time
Help children get ready to go outside and to come back in
Assist with light classroom clean up and end of day reset
Follow the lead teacher’s guidance and the classroom rhythm
Schedule and availability
Typical sub hours are 8:30 to 3:30 on weekdays
Sometimes sub needs are scheduled ahead of time
Often we reach out in the evening before or early the same morning
Being responsive and letting us know quickly, with a clear yes or no, is very helpful for planning
Qualifications
Required
Genuine interest in Waldorf education and early childhood
Warm, calm presence with young children
Willingness to work outdoors in all Vermont seasons
Successful completion of a background check, including fingerprinting
Completion of First Aid and CPR training
Completion of Mandatory Reporter training
Rainbow Gardens will provide and pay for First Aid and CPR and Mandatory Reporter training if you do not already have them.
Preferred
Experience in education or childcare
Comfort supporting a mixed age group of young children
Compensation
Pay is 25 dollars per hour
